Oedipina pseudouniformis Brame, 1968, J. Herpetol., 2: 25. Holotype: LACM 1729, by original designation. Type locality: "Cienega Colorado approximately three kilometers by road east of Juan Viñas and 6. 3 km by road west of Turrialba, Canton de Turrialba, Provinciade Cartago, Costa Rica, elevation 1035 m (3400 ft)".

Common Names

Wide-headed Worm Salamander (Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 867).

Distribution

Humid lowland and premontane areas of the Atlantic slope of central Costa Rica and on both slopes in northern Costa Rica, 19–1213 m elevation.

See account by Savage, 2002, Amph. Rept. Costa Rica: 156. See map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 581. Sunyer, Townsend, Wake, Travers, Gonzalez, Obando, and Quintana, 2011, Breviora, 526: 1-16, suggested that all records of Oedipina pseudouniformis from Nicaragua were referable to Oedipina koehleri. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 82–90, compared this species with others from Central America and provided a map and photograph, although this was written before the description of Oedipina koehleri. Raffaëlli, 2013, Urodeles du Monde, 2nd ed.: 380–381, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 867, provided an account summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
