Distribution
Northeastern parts of the Viet Bac Massif (Ngan Son Mountain Range), Cao Bang Province, Vietnam, ca. 1000 to 1400 m elevation; possibly extends into adjacent Jingxi County, Guangxi Province, China.

Comment
In the Tylototriton asperrimus species group, the sister taxon of Tylototriton ziegleri according to the original publication, where molecular (mtDNA) markers and comparative morphology were detailed. Previously noted as an unnamed species by Liu, Hou, and Rao, 2022, Biodiversity Data J., 10 (e82707): 5, and Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 286.
