Tylototriton (Yaotriton) thaiorum Poyarkov, Nguyen, and Arkhipov, 2021, Taprobanica, 10: 14. Holotype: ZMMU A-7577, by original designaiton. Type locality: "an ephemeral swamp in a forest clearing surrounded by montane evergreen tropical forest in Pu Hoat Nature Reserve, environs of Muong Dan Village, Hanh Dich Commune, Que Phong District, Nghe An Province, Central Vietnam (19.71715°N, 104.83791°E; 709 m a.s.l.)". Distribution

Pu Hoat Nature Reserve, Nghe An Province, Vietnam, 700 to 1000 m elevation, close to the Houpaphan Province, Laos, border where it is expected to occur on the northwestern slopes of the Pu Hoat Mountain Range.

In the Tylototriton (Yaotriton) asperrimus species group and the sister taxon of Tylototriton notialis, with which it formerly was confused, according to the original publication, where natural history, morphology, molecular markers, and phylogeny of Tylototriton generally were discussed. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 289, provided an account, summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
