Caecilia Buckleyi Boulenger, 1884, Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., Ser. 5, 13: 398. Holotype: BMNH 1946.9.5.15 (formerly 1878.1.25.47) (animal figured in original publication), according to Taylor, 1968, Caecilians of the World: 425. Type locality: "Intac, Ecuador".

Distribution
Western slopes of the Cordillera Occidental from Pichincha, Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas, and Cotopaxi provinces, at 1526 to 2689 m elevation.

Removed from the synonymy of Caecilia pachynema by Arteaga-Navarro, Bustamante, and Guayasamin, 2013, Amph. Rept. Mindo: 119–120 (who also provided a brief account and dot distribution map), where it had been placed by Dunn, 1942, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 91: 524, and provisionally by Taylor, 1968, Caecilians of the World: 425. Coloma and Duellman, 2025, Amph. Ecuador. Vol. 4: 328–329, provided an account, with photographs, which summarized identification, morphology, systematics, natural history, distribution (including a dot map for Ecuador), and conservation.
