Distribution

Cloud forests of the Pacific versant of the Colombian Andes in Departamento Nariño, ranging between 600–1845 m elevation; most known specimens come from Reserva La Planada (Municipio Ricaurte, Nariño, Colombia, at about 1800 m), but the species is also present at Reserva Biotopo (Municipio Barbacoas, Nariño, Colombia, 600 m) and at Reserva El Bosque (Municipio Ricaurte, Nariño, Colombia, 1845 m); expected in adjacent extreme northern Ecuador.

Comment

Confused with both Caecilia guntheri and Caecilia subnigricans prior to its naming, according to the original publication, where comparative morphology was detailed. See Caecilia subnigricans literature previous to 2025 that might be relevant.
