Caecilia nigricans Boulenger, 1902
Caecilia nigricans Boulenger, 1902, Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., Ser. 7, 9: 51. Holotype: BMNH 1946.9.5.52 (formerly 1901.3.29.88), according to Taylor, 1968, Caecilians of the World: 407. Type locality: "the Rio Lita, 3000 feet", northwestern Ecuador.
Caecilia intermedia Boulenger, 1913, Proc. Zool. Soc. London, 1913: 1020-1021. Syntypes: BMNH 1946.9.5.9–11 and 1946.9.5.50–51 according to museum records; Museum records also regard BMNH 1946.9.5.9 (formerly 1901.3.29.67) as lectotype although DRF has not located this designation in print. Type localities: "S. Javier, N.W. Ecuador"; "Paramba, N.W. Ecuador"; "Pambelar, N.W. Ecuador" (3 specimens). Peña Lisa, Condoto, Choco, Colombia (only the first three Ecuadorian specimens and number 4 of the Colombian series are Caecilia nigricans [see comment under Caecilia dunni] according to Dunn in Taylor, 1968, Caecilians of the World: 407).

Distribution
Eastern lowlands of southeastern Darien Province, Panama, thence south through the Pacific lowlands of Colombia and northern Ecuador; the Caribbean drainage of Venezuela, Colombia, and Panama.

Lynch, 2000 "1999", Rev. Acad. Colomb. Cienc. Exact. Fis. Nat., 23: 326, commented on the range. Barrio-Amorós, 1999 "1998", Acta Biol. Venezuelica, 18: 62, commented on the Venezuelan distribution. Taylor and Peters, 1974, Univ. Kansas Sci. Bull., 50: 341, commented the Ecuadorian population. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 29–30, compared this species to others found in Central America.
