Distribution
Cordillera Occidental and Cordillera Central of Colombia and the Cordillera Oriental in adjacent Ecuador (Sicumbíos, Napo, and Tungurahua provinces) below 2140 m in wet forest; possibly northwestern Colombia.

Taylor and Peters, 1974, Univ. Kansas Sci. Bull., 50: 340–341, commented on the habitat and range as well geographic variation. Mueses-Cisneros, 2005, Caldasia, 27: 237, provided records for Putumayo, Colombia. See note by Guayasamin and Funk, 2009, Zootaxa, 2220: 41–66, on this species at the Yanayacu Biological Station, Napo, Ecuador. Tighe, 2022, Smithson. Contrib. Zool., 654: 70, briefly discussed location of paratypes. Coloma and Duellman, 2025, Amph. Ecuador. Vol. 4: 331–332, provided an account, with photographs, which summarized identification, morphology, systematics, natural history, distribution (including a dot map for Ecuador), and conservation.
