Chthonerpeton arii Cascon and Lima-Verde, 1994, Rev. Brasil. Biol., 54: 549. Holotype: UFC A1503, by original designation. Type locality: "Limoeiro do Norte, (250m. Alt. 05° 09′ LS, 38° 06′ LW) Ceará, Brasil".

None noted.
Distribution
Known from the type locality (Limoeiro do Norte, Ceará), Itaparica (hydroelectric damsite of Luiz Gonzaga), on the border between the states of Pernambuco and Bahia; and the municipality of Paulo Afonso, state of Bahia, northeastern Brazil.

Comment
Intermediate between the Chthonerpeton indistinctum and Chthonerpeton viviparum groups according to the original publication. Maciel, Vilela de Moraes e Silva, Nascimento, Borges-Nojosa, and Lima, 2013, Check List, 9: 818–819, provided records for Bahia and from the border of Pernambuco and Bahia, Brazil. Santos, Pineschi, and Zaher, 2025, Zootaxa, 5728: 561–570, provided a dot map of the distribution as well as its inclusion in an identification key to the species of the genus.
