Chthonerpeton braestrupi Taylor, 1968
Chthonerpeton braestrupi Taylor, 1968, Caecilians of the World: 283. Holotype: ZMUC12 RO-234, by original designation (formerly a syntype of Chthonerpeton indistinctum). Now lost, according to museum records (personal commun., H. Kristensen, 24 Nov. 2010). Type locality: "Brasil (no other locality data)".
Common Names
Braestrup's Caecilian (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 26).
Distribution
Known only from the imprecise type locality (Brasil), and from Brazil in the state of Rio de Janeiro: 1) the Reserva Ecoloógica de Guapiaçu in the municipality of Cachoeiras de Macacu, 2) Parque Nacional da Restinga de Jurubatiba, and possibly from the municipality of Paracambi, and the municipality of Iguaba Grande, although these last two localities were based on specimens not so far examined closely or formally referred to this species.

Comment
In the Chthonerpeton indistinctum group of Nussbaum, 1986, Rev. Suisse Zool., 93: 917. Almeida-Gomes, Siqueira, Borges, Vrcibradic, Fusinato, and Rocha, 2014, Biota Neotrop., 14 (3): 1–15, reported the species from the Reserva Ecoloógica de Guapiaçu, state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Dorigo, Vrcibradic, and Rocha, 2018, Pap. Avulsos Zool., São Paulo, 58(e20185805): 1–11, discussed the taxonomic issues with collections of Chthonerpeton braestrupi in Rio de Janeiro and elsewhere, noting that the nominal species could represent a species complex. Carmo, Miguel, Pinna, Fernandes, and Woitovicz-Cardoso, 2019, Biota Neotrop., 19 (2: e20190727): 1–12, reported the species from the Parque Nacional da Restinga de Jurubatiba, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and discussed its ecological range.
