Chthonerpeton onorei Nussbaum, 1986, Rev. Suisse Zool., 93: 912. Holotype: MHNG 2251.06, by original designation. Type locality: "El Reventador, 1500 m elevation, Napo Province, Ecuador".

In the Chthonerpeton viviparum group of Nussbaum, 1986, Rev. Suisse Zool., 93: 371–373. Coloma and Duellman, 2025, Amph. Ecuador. Vol. 4: 352–353, provided an account, with photographs, which summarized identification, morphology, systematics, natural history, distribution (including a dot map), and conservation.
