Distribution

Known only from the type locality (near Anchihuay, at 2040 to 2110 m elevation, Distrito de Anco, Provincia La Mar, Departamento de Ayacucho, Peru) on the northwestern part of the Apurimac Canyon.

Comment

Most similar to Atelopous erythropus, but that species not available for molecular assay; most closely related to Atelopus tricolor among those species assayed, according to the original publication.
