Comment

In the Bufo ockendeni (= Rhinella veraguensis) group in the original publication, a group recognized by Cei, 1980, Monit. Zool. Ital., N.S., Monogr., 2: 203. Although asserted to be a member of Rhinella (as Bufo typhonius group) group by Blair (ed.), 1972, Evol. Genus Bufo, its membership in the Rhinella veraguensis group (as Bufo) was supported by Hoogmoed, 1990, in Peters and Hutterer (eds.), Vert. Tropics: 117, and Harvey and Smith, 1993, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 106: 442–449. See Lavilla and Cei, 2001, Monogr. Mus. Reg. Sci. Nat. Torino, 28: 26–27, noted confusion in the literature with Rhinella rumbolli. See brief accounts (as both Bufo amboroensis and Bufo quechua) by Köhler, 2000, Bonn. Zool. Monogr., 48: 82, 86–87. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status (as Bufo quechua) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 190. Sosa, Schalk, Braga, and Pinto-Ledezma, 2015, Herpetol. Rev., 46: 214, provided a record (as Rhinella amboroensis) from Verdecillo, Province of Manuel Maria Caballero, Santa Cruz, Bolivia. In the Rhinella margaritifera clade, Rhinella veraguensis group of Pereyra, Blotto, Baldo, Chaparro, Ron, Elias-Costa, Iglesias, Venegas, Thomé, Ospina-Sarria, Maciel, Rada, Kolenc, Borteiro, Rivera-Correa, Rojas-Runjaic, Moravec, De la Riva, Wheeler, Castroviejo-Fisher, Grant, Haddad, and Faivovich, 2021, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 447: 1–156. See comment under Rhinella amboroensisKöhler, Vences, Padial, Plewnia, and Lötters, 2023, Salamandra, 59: 321, provided a dot map of the species.
