Leptodactylus intermedius Lutz, 1930, Mem. Oswaldo Cruz, Rio de Janeiro, 23: 8, 27. Syntypes: AL-MNRJ 1438-1441, according to Heyer, 1970, Contrib. Sci. Nat. Hist. Mus. Los Angeles Co., 191: 18. Type locality: "Manacapui [= Manacapurú] perto do Manaos", Amazonas, Brazil (Portuguese text); "Manacapuri near Manaos" Brazil (English text).

Distribution

Lowlands of the Amazon River Basin in Brazilian Amazonia (including at least parts of Rondônia, Amazonas, Amapá, and Pará), occurring also in Bolivia (Pando and Santa Cruz) and in the Eastern Guiana Shield in eastern French Guiana.

Removed from the synonymy of Leptodactylus petersii by Gazoni, Lyra, Ron, Strüssmann, Baldo, Narimatsu, Pansonato, Schneider, Giaretta, Haddad, Parise-Maltempi, and Carvalho, 2021, Zool. Anz., 290: 127 (who discussed morphology, molecular markers, vocalizations, and cytogenetics), where it had been placed by  Heyer, 1994, Smithson. Contrib. Zool., 546: 96 (and previously in the synonymy of Leptodactylus wagneri according to Heyer, 1970, Contrib. Sci. Nat. Hist. Mus. Los Angeles Co., 191: 18).  De la Riva, Köhler, Lötters, and Reichle, 2000, Rev. Esp. Herpetol., 14: 42, provided the Bolivian record (as Leptodactylus petersii). Carvalho, Fouquet, Lyra, Giaretta, Costa-Campos, Rodrigues, Haddad, and Ron, 2022, Syst. Biodiversity, 20 (1: 2089269): 1–31, reported on the systematics, phylogenetics, and advertisement call. Taucce, Costa-Campos, Carvalho, and Michalski, 2022, Eur. J. Taxon., 836: 96–130, reported on distribution, literature, and conservation status for Amapá, Brazil.
