Arthroleptis aureoli (Schiøtz, 1964)
Cardioglossa aureoli Schiøtz, 1964, Vidensk. Medd. Dansk Naturhist. Foren., 127: 26. Holotype: ZMUC R.075881, by original designation. Type locality: "Fourah Bay College, Freetown, Sierra Leone".
Arthroleptis aureoli — Blackburn, 2008, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 49: 819.
English Names
Freetown Long-fingered Frog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 37).
Mount Aureol Squeaker (Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 254).
Distribution
Freetown Peninsula north through western Sierra Leone into neighboring Guinea.
Comment
Perhaps allied to Cardioglossa nigromaculata Nieden, with which it was compared by Schiøtz in his description, according to Amiet, 1985, in Frost (ed.), Amph. Species World: 16. Blackburn, 2008, Zool. J. Linn. Soc., 154: 624, suggested that molecular evidence places this species outside of Cardioglossa and more closely related to other arthroleptid species. Blackburn, 2008, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 49: 819, transferred the species to Arthroleptis. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 147. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 254–255, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map.
