Comment
See brief account in Laurent, 1972, Explor. Parc Natl. Virunga, Ser. 2, 22: 22–24. Removed from the synonymy of Arthroleptis xenodactylus by Laurent, 1954, Ann. Mus. R. Congo Belge, Tervuren, Ser. Quarto, Sci. Zool., 1: 36–37, where it had been placed by Loveridge, 1942, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 91: 379. See comment under Arthroleptis discodactyla. Channing and Howell, 2006, Amph. E. Afr.: 59–60, provided a brief account and map. Frétey, 2008, Alytes, 25: 99–172, summarized the literature. The status of Arthroleptis discodactylus is questionable. Placed in the synonymy of Arthroleptis schubotzi by Laurent, 1972, Explor. Parc Natl. Virunga, Ser. 2, 22: 32, the species has been subsequently recognized by some authors (e.g., Ayebare, Plumptre, Kujirakwinja, and Segan, 2018, Biol. Conserv., 220: 67–75), although a justification has yet to be presented. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 262–263, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. Dehling and Sinsch, 2023, Diversity, 15 (512): 1–81, discussed the range, identification, natural history, advertisement call, and conservation status in Rwanda.
