Cardioglossa annulata Hirschfeld, Blackburn, Burger, Zassi-Boulou, and Rödel in Hirschfeld, Blackburn, Burger, Greenbaum, Zassi-Boulou, and Rödel, 2015, Afr. J. Herpetol., 64: 90. Holotype: ZMB 80472, by original designation. Type locality: "Republic of the Congo (RC), Niari Department, along Lekoumou River, about 500 m north of Bandjoko, 02°19′36.4″ S, 12°47′34.9″ E, elevation 634 m, perched on thin-stemmed plant about 30 cm above ground on bank of small river in secondary rainforest". [Note: as of 12 Jan 2024, Zoobank regards this taxon as unpublished, so the date of publication will extend from whenever the printed version was distributed to libraries—DRF]

Known from the regions near Mayoko and Tsinguidi in the rainforest zone of the Rep. Congo; unknown whether the species is endemic to this region, or if it might also occur in adjacent areas and  countries, especially Gabon to the north. All localities are in mid-elevation rainforests at elevations of 634 to 744 m.
