Cardioglossa elegans Boulenger, 1906, Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., Ser. 7, 17: 321. Syntypes: BMNH (4 specimens) 1947.2.30.34–37 (formerly 1903.7.28.21–23), according to Amiet, 1985, in Frost (ed.), Amph. Species World: 16. Type locality: "Efulen", Cameroon.

Distribution

Western Cameroon through Equatorial Guinea to central Gabon in hilly, forested areas below 1000 m elevation.

Lasso, Rial, Castroviejo, and De la Riva, 2002, Graellsia, 58: 21-34, provided notes on ecological distribution in Equatorial Guinea. Herrmann, Böhme, Herrmann, Plath, Schmitz, and Solbach, 2005, Salamandra, 41: 61–81, reported the species from Nkebe waterfall, southwestern Cameroon. Pauwels and Rödel, 2007, Herpetozoa, Wien, 19: 135-148, did not note the species as occurring in Gabon. Dewynter, Frétey, Jongsma, Bamba-Kaya, and Pauwels, 2018, Cah. Fondation Biotope, 18: 22, provided a brief account and photographs from the Monts Birougou area of Gabon. Dewynter and Frétey, 2019, Cah. Fondation Biotope, 27: 9, noted that the first record for Gabon was in 2008, summarized the literature for Gabon and provided photographs (p. 45). Pauwels, Carlino, Chirio, Daversa, Lips, Oslisly, and Testa, 2019, Cave and Karst Sci., 46: 3-12, discussed specimens found living in caves in Gabon.  Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph.
