Comment

Affinities of this species with the very similar Cardioglossa melanogaster are commented on in the original publication. Blackburn, 2006, Herpetol. Rev., 37: 486, provided the record from Mount Mbam, West Province, Cameroon. Blackburn, 2008, Zool. J. Linn. Soc., 154: 624, suggested that Cardioglossa schioetzi and Cardioglossa melanogaster are sister species and more closely related to Cardioglossa gracilis than to Cardioglossa leucomystax. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 148. Gvoždík, 2011, Herpetol. Rev., 42: 106-107, reported the species for the Gotel Mountains, Adamawa Province, Cameroon and discussed the range. Channing, Rödel, and Channing, 2012, Tadpoles of Africa: 98–99, reported on comparative tadpole morphology. Arroyo-Lambaer, Chapman, Hale, and Blackburn, 2018, PLoS One, 13(8: e0202010): 1–17, reported on conservation genetics. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 240–241, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map.
