Distribution

Amazon Basin and on the Amazonian slopes to about 1000 m elevation in southern Colombia, Ecuador, and northern Peru; arguably in Amazonian Brazil (see comment).

In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) martinicensis series, Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group according to Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 234. Distribution records discussed by Lynch and Lescure, 1980, Bull. Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat. Paris, Sect. A, Zool., 2: 312. Duellman, 1978, Misc. Publ. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas, 65: 103–104, provided a brief account and characterization of the call. Rodríguez and Duellman, 1994, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 22: 61–62, provided a brief account for the Iquitos region of northeastern Peru as Eleutherodactylus variabilis. Castro-Herrera, Herrera, Azevedo-Ramos, Coloma, Ron, Rodríguez, Icochea, and Martinez, 2004, IUCN Red List, e.T57029A11571157: unnumbered, provided a record from the Purus River, Amazonas, Brazil, but cited no specimens and, with the exception of Segalla, Berneck, Canedo, Caramaschi, Cruz, Garcia, Grant, Haddad, Lourenço, Mângia, Mott, Nascimento, Toledo, Werneck, and Langone, 2021, Herpetol. Brasil., 10: 145, who included the species in the Brazilian fauna, no one else seems to have provided specimen information. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) unistrigatus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 128. Not assignable to a species group according to Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 128.
