Craugastor castanedai McCranie, 2018, Herpetologica, 74: 170. Holotype: USNM 590000, by original designation. Type locality: "from a ridge above Quebrada de Oro (15°39′N, 86°48′W), Cordillera Nombre de Dios, 1140 m elevation, department of Atlántida, Honduras".
