Distribution
Throughout the central region of the Trans-Volcanic Mexican Cordilleras slopes, those facing the Río Balsas, in the states of México and Morelos (1670–2264 m), an area of mesic pine–oak forest habitat.

Comment
Morphology, morphometrics, and molecular markers detailed in the original publication, which included this species in the Craugastor mexicanus series, and noted that it had previously been confused with Craugastor hobartsmithi.
