Type locality: "at an altitude of 3500 feet on Volcán San Martín", Veracruz, Mexico. Synonymy by Duellman, 1961, Univ. Kansas Publ. Mus. Nat. Hist., 15: 18-23; Köhler, Veselý, and Greenbaum, 2005 "2006", Amph. Rept. El Salvador: 53–54; but see Lynch, 2000, Rev. Acad. Colomb. Cienc. Exact. Fis. Nat., 24: 130, who considered it distinct.

Eleutherodactylus sanmartinensis Shannon and Werler, 1955, Trans. Kansas Acad. Sci., 58: 375. Holotype: formerly F.A. Shannon 4750 (now presumably in UIMNH). Type locality: "at an altitude of 3500 ft., near a water hole on Volcán San Martín, Veracruz", Mexico. Synonymy with Eleutherodactylus rhodopis by Lynch, 2000, Rev. Acad. Colomb. Cienc. Exact. Fis. Nat., 24: 130; with Eleutherodactylus loki by Lynch, 2000, Rev. Acad. Colomb. Cienc. Exact. Fis. Nat., 24: 142.

Distribution

Between 9 and 2100 m elevation from San Luis Potosi and Veracruz along the Caribbean lowlands of Mexico to Belize and northwestern Honduras; crossing the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and thence southeast along the Pacific versant of Chiapas and Guatemala to El Salvador.
