Leptodactylus pulcher Boulenger, 1898, Proc. Zool. Soc. London, 1898: 122. Syntypes: BMNH (3 specimens, 1947.2.17.36–38 [originally 1898.4.28.112–114] by museum records); BMNH 1947.2.17.38 designated lectotype by Heyer, 1969, Contrib. Sci. Nat. Hist. Mus. Los Angeles Co., 155: 6. Type locality: "Chimbo", Chimborazo Province, Ecuador; in the same paper as the description Boulenger noted "Chimbo" as "Puente del Chimbo, the railway terminus about 70 miles from Guayaquil, at an elevation of about 1000 ft."
