Pristimantis allpapuyu Yánez-Muñoz, Sánchez-Nivicela, and Reyes-Puig, 2016, Avanc. Cienc. Ingen., Quito, Secc. B,, 8: 12. Holotype: DHMECN 11384, by original designation. Type locality: "sector La Enrramada (3.172231° S, 79.577292° W, 2917 m; . . . ), límite de la parroquia Tendales, cantón El Guabo, provincia de El Oro, República del Ecuador".

Known only from the type locality in montane rainforest in the Cordillera Occidental at 2917 m elevation, Provincia de El Oro, Ecuador.

Coloma and Duellman, 2025, Amph. Ecuador. Vol. 3: 52–53, provided an account with photographs which summarized morphological identification, natural history, distribution (including a dot map for Ecuador), and conservation.
