Known from only two nearby localities in the Abra de Zamora, Zamora Chinchipe Province, Ecuador, 2663 to 2784 m elevation.

Comment
In the subgenus Huicundomantis, Pristimantis phoxocephalus group, the sister taxon of Pristimantis atratus, according to the original publication, where comparative morphology, phylogenetics, advertisement call, natural history, and distribution were detailed.
