Distribution

Inter-Andean shrub and paramo regions on the Amazonian slopes of the Cordillera Oriental in Azuay, Loja, and Morona Santiago Provinces, Ecuador, between 2404 and 3612 m elevation.

Comment

In the Pristimantis (Huicundomantis) phoxocephalus species group according to Páez and Ron, 2019, ZooKeys, 868: 27, who noted that it previously had been confused with Pristimantis rivetiColoma and Duellman, 2025, Amph. Ecuador. Vol. 3: 177–179, provided an account with photographs which summarized morphological identification, systematics, natural history, distribution (including a dot map for Ecuador), and conservation.
