Type locality: "el Área Ecológica de Conservación Municipal Tinajillas–Río Gualaceño (3° 01’13.8”S, 78° 32’51.”W, 3200 m de elevación.), parroquia General Leonidas Plaza, cantón Limón–Indanza, provincia de Morona-Santiago, República del Ecuador". Distribution

Known with confidence on from the páramo at 1715 to 2831 m elevation in the Reserva Municipal Tinajillas–Gualaceño, province of Morona-Santiago, southeast versant of the Andes of Ecuador. See comment.

Not assigned to a species group in the original publication. Brito-M., Batallas-Revelo, and Yánez-Muñoz, 2017, Neotropical Biodiversity, 3: 125–156, provided records of Pristimantis aff. gualacenio from Tinguichaca, Sambalán and Cisnian, Morona Santiago, Ecuador, 2800 to 3500 m elevation, and brief natural history notes. Coloma and Duellman, 2025, Amph. Ecuador. Vol. 3: 180, provided an account with photographs which summarized morphological identification, systematics, natural history, distribution (including a dot map for Ecuador), and conservation.
