Eleutherodactylus huicundo Guayasamin, Almeida-Reinoso, and Nogales-Sornosa, 2004, Herpetol. Monogr., 18: 128. Holotype: QCAZ 14753, by original designation. Type locality: "El Playón de San Francisco (approx. 77° 40′ W, 00° 38′ N; elevation 3400 m), Provincia Sucumbíos, Ecuador".

Distribution
Carchi, Sucumbíos, and Imbabura provinces in the northern Cordillera Oriental, Ecuador, 2651 to 3490 m elevation; also reported in the Department of Nariño, Colombia.
Geographic Occurrence
Natural Resident: Colombia, Ecuador
Comment
In the Eleutherodactylus orcesi group according to the original publication. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) orcesi species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 125. Not assignable to a species group according to Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 127. Batallas-Revelo, Márquez, and Guayasamin, 2025, ZooKeys, 1224: 211–252, reported on the advertisement call from Carchi Province, Ecuador. Coloma and Duellman, 2025, Amph. Ecuador. Vol. 3: 184–186, provided an account with photographs which summarized morphological identification, systematics, natural history, distribution (including a dot map for Ecuador), and conservation.
