Distribution

Low and moderate elevations (generally below 1000 m) from the Río San Juan, Colombia (Valle del Cauca) and south to west-central Ecuador (Carchi, Cotopaxi, Esmeraldas, Imbabura, Los Ríos, Pichincha, and Santo Domingo provinces) at 201 to 2147 m elevation.

In the Eleutherodactylus cerasinus group, previously confused with Eleutherodactylus latidiscus, according to the original publication. In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) conspicillatus series, Eleutherodactylus cerasinus group of Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 226, who provided an account on page 106-107. Savage, 2002, Amph. Rept. Costa Rica: 227, included this species in his Eleutherodactylus cerasinus series, Eleutherodactylus cerasinus group. In the Pristimantis (Hypodictyon) rubicundus group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 116. Arteaga-Navarro, Bustamante, and Guayasamin, 2013, Amph. Rept. Mindo: 73–74, provided an account and dot map for Ecuador. Coloma and Duellman, 2025, Amph. Ecuador. Vol. 3: 201–203, provided an account with photographs which summarized morphological identification, systematics, natural history, distribution (including a dot map for Ecuador), and conservation.
