Pristimantis mazar Guayasamin and Arteaga-Navarro, 2013, Zootaxa, 3616: 346. Holotype: QCAZ 27556, by original designation. Type locality: "La Libertad, Reserva Mazar (02.546589° S, 78.698375° W; 2895 m.a.s.l.), Cantón Azogues, Provincia Cañar, Ecuador; airline distance from Rivera is 6.6 km".

Elevations between 2588 and 3415 m on the highlands of the Cordillera Oriental in the Province of Cañar, Ecuador.

Comment

In the Pristimantis orestes group according to the original publication. Not assignable to a species group according to Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 127. Coloma and Duellman, 2025, Amph. Ecuador. Vol. 3: 247–248, provided an account, with photographs, summarizing morphological identification, systematics, natural history, distribution (including a dot map for Ecuador), conservation, and also (p. 473) described the advertisement call.
