Eleutherodactylus ortizi Guayasamin, Almeida-Reinoso, and Nogales-Sornosa, 2004, Herpetol. Monogr., 18: 133. Holotype: QCAZ 16313, by original designation. Type locality: "near Nueva América (77° 58′ 54″ W, 00° 15′ 34″ N; elevation 3420 m), Provincia imbabura, Ecuador".

Cordillera Oriental in Carchi and Imbabura provinces, Ecuador, 2735 to 3580 m elevation; likely in adjacent Colombia.

Comment

In the Eleutherodactylus orcesi group according to the original publication. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) orcesi species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 125. Not assignable to a species group according to Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 128. Coloma and Duellman, 2025, Amph. Ecuador. Vol. 3: 292–293, provided an account with photographs which summarized morphological identification, systematics, natural history, distribution (including a dot map for Ecuador), and conservation.
