Comment

See account by Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 121-122, who noted that previous reports of this species from Colombia are based on specimens of Eleutherodactylus palmeri and who placed this species in the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) martinicensis series, Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) unistrigatus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 128. Not assignable to a species group according to Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 128. Mueses-Cisneros and Moreno-Quintero, 2012, Herpetotropicos, Mérida, 7: 39–54, reported on a collection from Reserva Natural Biotopo Selva Húmeda, Barbacoas, Nariño, Colombia. Arteaga-Navarro, Bustamante, and Guayasamin, 2013, Amph. Rept. Mindo: 81–82, provided an account and dot map for Ecuador. Included in the Pristimantis chalceus clade of the Pristimantis unistrigatus group as delimited by Mônico, Koch, Ferrão, Fernandes, Marques, Chaparro, Rodrigues, Lima, and Fouquet, 2024, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 108203: 1–19, on molecular grounds (mtDNA and nuDNA genes). Coloma and Duellman, 2025, Amph. Ecuador. Vol. 3: 297–299, provided an account, with photographs, summarizing morphological identification, systematics, natural history, distribution (including a dot map for Ecuador), conservation, and also (p. 480) described the advertisement call.
