Pristimantis tinguichaca Brito-M., Ojala-Barbour, Batallas-Revelo, and Almendáriz C., 2016, J. Herpetol., 50: 338. Holotype: MEPN 14418, by original designation. Type locality: "Tinguichaca, Sangay National Park (78°25′29.0″W, 02°12′49.80″S), Zuñac, Morona, Morona Santiago Province, Ecuador, elevation 2,830 m".

Distribution

Known from several cloud forest sites in the Cordillera Oriental of the Andes in Sangay National Park, Morona Santiago Province, Ecuador, as well as in montane forest in the Cerro Candelaria and Cerro Mayordomo reserves of Fundación Ecominga and the Machay Reserve in the upper Pastaza River watershed, Tungurahua Province, east-central Ecuador, 2214 to 3567 m elevation

Comment

In the Pristimantis unistrigatus group according to the original publication. Franco-Mena, Reyes-Puig, and Yánez-Muñoz, 2019, Check List, 15: 857–862, provided a range extension and discussed variation in color pattern. Reyes-Puig, Reyes-Puig, Franco-Mena, Jost, and Yánez-Muñoz, 2022, ZooKeys, 1081: 58, provided a record from Machay Reserve, Tunguruhua Province, Ecuador, 2290 m elevation. Coloma and Duellman, 2025, Amph. Ecuador. Vol. 3: 399–400, provided an account, with photographs, summarizing morphological identification, systematics, natural history, distribution (including a dot map for Ecuador), conservation, and also (p. 486) described the advertisement call.
