Distribution
Inter-Andean valleys from southern Colombia (Nariño and Putumayo departments) to central Ecuador (Carchi, Sucumbíos, Imbabura, Pichincha, Napo, Cotopaxi, Tungurahua, and Chimborazo provinces), 1500 to 3499 m elevation.

In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) martinicensis series, Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group according to Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 234. Almendáriz C. and Orcés, 2004, Rev. Politécnica, Quito, 25: 130–131, provided distributional data for Ecuador. Mueses-Cisneros, 2005, Caldasia, 27: 237, provided records for Putumayo, Colombia. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) unistrigatus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 128. Not assignable to a species group according to Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 127. Chaves-Acuña, Moreno, and Yánez-Muñoz, 2023, Phyllomedusa, 22: 49–55, reported on the advertisement call and discussed the systematics of the species. Included in the Pristimantis unistrigatus clade of the Pristimantis unistrigatus group as delimited by Mônico, Koch, Ferrão, Fernandes, Marques, Chaparro, Rodrigues, Lima, and Fouquet, 2024, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 108203: 1–19, on molecular grounds (mtDNA and nuDNA genes). Batallas-Revelo, Márquez, and Guayasamin, 2025, ZooKeys, 1224: 211–252, reported on the advertisement call from Carchi Province, Ecuador, as well upon previous literature on the acoustics of this species. Coloma and Duellman, 2025, Amph. Ecuador. Vol. 3: 410–413, provided an account with photographs which summarized morphological identification, systematics, natural history, distribution (including a dot map for Ecuador), and conservation.
