Comment

Lehr and Aguilar, 2006, Zootaxa, 1284: 53-60, suggested that this species is not in Phrynopus and the Phrynopus flavomaculatus group, but a member of Eleutherodactylus, unassigned to species group. Heinicke, Duellman, and Hedges, 2007, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, 104: 10092-10097, removed this species from nominal Eleutherodactylus but did not provide a new generic name. Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 111, placed this species in Oreobates based on a personal communication from Edgar Lehr that this species shares morphological characteristics with Oreobates. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status (as Phrynopus pereger) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 407. See Duellman and Lehr, 2009, Terrest.-breeding Frogs in Peru: 101-102, for brief account.
