Phrynopus pesantesi Lehr, Lundberg, and Aguilar, 2005, Copeia, 2005: 486. Holotype: MUSM 19857, by original designation. Type locality: "Peru, Departamento de Pasco, Provincia de Pasco, Distrito de Huachon, approximately 8 km (airline) NNE of the village Huachon, during early afternoon under a stone near to Laguna Quimaccocha . . . , 10° 33′ 01.1″ S, 75° 54′ 09.0″ W, 4390 m elevation".
