Pristimantis abakapa Rojas-Runjaic, Salerno, Señaris Vasquez, and Pauly, 2013, Zootaxa, 3686: 337. Holotype: MHNLS 20544, by original designation. Type locality: "Abakapá-tepui, Macizo de Chimantá, Parque Nacional Canaima, Gran Sabana municipality, Bolívar state, Venezuela (5° 11′ 31.2″ N, 62° 18′ 56.6″ W; elevation 2245 m)". Abakapa Rain Frog (original publication).
Distribution
Known only from the type locality on the the summit of Abakapá-tepui, (2245 m), one of the eleven mountains that makes up the Chimantá massif, so the range is expected to include the entire massif, Bolívar state, Venezuela

Comment
In the nonmonophyletic Pristimantis unistrigatus group according to the original publication. Not assigned to species group by Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 126. Señaris Vasquez, Lampo, Rojas-Runjaic, and Barrio-Amorós, 2014, Guía Ilust. Anf. Parque Nac. Canaima: 88–89, provided a photograph and a brief account for the Parque Nacional de Canaima, Venezuela. Jablonski, Grul'a, Barrio-Amorós, and Kok, 2017, Salamandra, 53: 473–478, compared the mt 16s sequence of this species with other species in the eastern tepuis of Venezuela and Guyana. See Barrio-Amorós, Rojas-Runjaic, and Señaris Vasquez, 2019, Amph. Rept. Conserv., 13 (1: e180): 111, for comments on range and literature with special reference to Venezuela. Included in the Pristimantis marmoratus clade of the Pristimantis unistrigatus group as delimited by Mônico, Koch, Ferrão, Fernandes, Marques, Chaparro, Rodrigues, Lima, and Fouquet, 2024, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 108203: 1–19, on molecular grounds (2 mtDNA genes and 2 nuDNA genes).
