Cloud forest on the western slope of the Cordillera Oriental in Colombia (Departments of Cundinamarca, Boyacá, and Santander) at elevations of 300–2400 m.

In the Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group; close to Eleutherodactylus cruentus, according to the original publication. In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) martinicensis series, Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group according to Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 220. In the Pristimantis ridens species series of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 114, and in the Pristimantis ridens species group of Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 126. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status (as Eleutherodactylus bicolor) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph.
