In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) martinicensis series, Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group according to Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 221. Lynch and Renjifo, 2001, Guia Anf. Rept. Bogota: 53, presented a brief account and photograph. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) unistrigatus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 128. Not assignable to species group according to Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 127. Included in the Pristimantis unistrigatus clade of the Pristimantis unistrigatus group as delimited by Mônico, Koch, Ferrão, Fernandes, Marques, Chaparro, Rodrigues, Lima, and Fouquet, 2024, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 108203: 1–19, on molecular grounds (mtDNA and nuDNA genes), and who implied that the distinctiveness of this taxon from Pristimantis elegans requires confirmation.
