In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) martinicensis series, Eleutherodactylus leptolophus group of Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 227. In the Pristimantis leptolophus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 123, although they suggested that it might not belong in this group. Retained in the Pristimantis leptolophus group by Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 126.
