Distribution

Elevations of 1200-2565 m on the western flanks of the Andes in extreme southwestern Colombia and in provincias Carchi, Junín, and Pichincha in northern Ecuador, where it occurs in cloud forest, 1200 to 2560 m elevation.

Comment

According to the original publication, some records of Eleutherodactylus cruentus from western Colombia and western Ecuador may actually be this species. See account by Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 107-108, who placed this species in the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) martinicensis series, Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group. In the Pristimantis (Hypodictyon) ridens species series of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 114. Arteaga-Navarro, Bustamante, and Guayasamin, 2013, Amph. Rept. Mindo: 75–76, provided an account and dot map for Ecuador.
