Pristimantis muchimuk Barrio-Amorós, Mesa, Brewer-Carias, and McDiarmid, 2010, Zootaxa, 2483: 36. Holotype: MHNLS 19652, by original designation. Type locality: "base camp of the Muchimuk-Expedition 2009, . . . . on a step of the northern face of Churi-tepui, 05º 16′ 45″ N, 62º 00′ 56″ W, 2325 masl, Estado Bolívar, Venezuela".

Known only from Churi-tepui, in the Chimanta massif, Estado Bolívar, Venezuela, 2325 to 2383 m elevation.

Rojas-Runjaic, Salerno, Señaris, and Pauly, 2013, Zootaxa, 3686: 334-350, reported on specimens from Churi-tepui, and amended the diagnosis. Not assignable to a species group according to Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 127. Señaris, Lampo, Rojas-Runjaic, and Barrio-Amorós, 2014, Guía Ilust. Anf. Parque Nac. Canaima: 100–101, provided a photograph and a brief account for the Parque Nacional de Canaima, Venezuela. See Barrio-Amorós, Rojas-Runjaic, and Señaris, 2019, Amph. Rept.
