Patchy distribution in the premontane belt on the Pacific slope of southern Costa Rica (884–1220 m elevation) and on the Atlantic slope of eastern Costa Rica and northwestern Panama in isolated populations to eastern Panama.

Costa Rica: 269, provided an account and placed this species in his Eleutherodactylus martinicensis series, Eleutherodactylus cruentus group.
