Eleutherodactylus ptochus Lynch, 1998, Rev. Acad. Colomb. Cienc. Exact. Fis. Nat., 22: 138. Holotype: ICN 39780, by original designation. Type locality: "COLOMBIA, Departamento de Valle del Cauca, Municipio El Cairo, vereda Las Amarillas, El Boquerón (límite con Depto. Choco), 2100-2200 m."

Region of the type locality in western Colombia (Valle del Cauca and adjacent Risaralda and Chocó), 2160–2250 m elevation.
