Distribution
Moderate elevations (1350–2040 m) on the eastern slopes of the Cordillera Oriental in extreme western Department of Caquetá, as well as the type locality in the headwaters of the Río Magdalena, Department of Huila, Colombia.

Lynch, 1976, Occas. Pap. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas, 61: 17, elevated this taxon to species status with no further comment. Lynch, Ruiz-Carranza, and Ardila-Robayo, 1994, Occas. Pap. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas, 170: 1–42, redescribed the species, made assignment to the Eleutherodactylus devillei species group, and noted a possible synapomorphy with Eleutherodactylus cremnobates. In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) martinicensis series, Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group according to Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 233. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) unistrigatus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 128. Not assignable to a species group according to Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 128.
