In the Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group, nearest Eleutherodactylus quinquagesimus (then undescribed), according to the original publication. See account by Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 138-139, who place this in the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) cerasinus series, Eleutherodactylus cerasinus group. Savage, 2002, Amph. Rept. Costa Rica: 227, placed this species in his Eleutherodactylus cerasinus series, Eleutherodactylus cerasinus group.
