Eleutherodactylus veletis Lynch and Rueda-Almonacid, 1997, Rev. Acad. Colomb. Cienc. Exact. Fis. Nat., 21: 139. Holotype: ICN 37206, by original designation. Type locality: "Colombia, Departamento de Caldas, Municipio de Pensilvania, Km 24 carretera Pensilvania a Arboleda, por una troche que conduce a Florencia, Caldas, sitio «Puerto Suarez», 2000-2150 m.s.n.m.".

Distribution
Known only from the vicinity of the type locality on the eastern slope of the Cordillera Central in the Municipality of Pensilvania and Municipality of Samaná, Department of Caldas, Colombia, 1850–2450 m elevation.
Comment
Unassigned to species group in the original publication. Lynch, 2004, in Rueda-Almonacid et al. (eds.), Libro Rojo Anf. Colombia: 269-272, provided an account and map and placed this species in the subgenus Eleutherodactylus. In the subgenus Pristimantis, but unnassigned to species group by Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 118, or by Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 128. See map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status (as Eleutherodactylus veletis) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 388. Fernandes-Primon and Rada, 2019, Catal. Anf. Rept. Colombia, Medellín, 5: 52-55, provided a detailed account, summarizing morphology, life history, and range.
