Pristimantis ventriguttatus Lehr and Köhler, 2007, Zootaxa, 1621: 46. Holotype: SMF 86413, by original designation. Type locality: "Hacienda Taulis (approx. 6° 50′ S, 79° 10′ W, 1800 m), Provincia de Santa Cruz, Departamento de Cajamarca, Peru".

Known only from the type locality (Hacienda Taulis, Province of Santa Cruz, Department of Cajamarca, Peru, 1800 m elevation) in montane forest.

In the Pristimantis orestes group according to the original publication. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) orestes species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 125.
