Distribution

Five localities at elevations of 1241 to 2070 m elevation in cloud forest in the humid subtropical regime and humid temperate regime on the western flank of the Andes in extreme southern Colombia (Nariño Department) and provinces of Carchi, Pichincha, and Cotopaxi, Ecuador.

In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) unistrigatus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 128. Not assignable to a species group according to Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 128. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status (as Eleutherodactylus verecundus) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 388. Arteaga-Navarro, Bustamante, and Guayasamin, 2013, Amph. Rept. Mindo: 88–89, provided an account and dot map for Ecuador. Yánez-Muñoz, Reyes-Puig, Reyes-Puig, Lagla-Chimba, Paucar-Veintimilla, Urgilés-Merchán, and Carrión-Olmedo, 2025, PeerJ, 13 (e18680): 38, redescribed the species (in their supplemental information 1) and discussed the identification of the paratypic series of Eleutherodactylus verecundus, noting that one actually represents Pristimantis satheri and another of Pristimantis robayoi.
