Comment
See account by Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 148-149, who place this in the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) martinicensis series, Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) unistrigatus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 128. Not assignable to a species group according to Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 128. Arteaga-Navarro, Bustamante, and Guayasamin, 2013, Amph. Rept. Mindo: 92–94, provided an account and dot map for Ecuador. Arteaga-Navarro, Pyron, Peñafiel, Romero-Barreto, Culebras, Bustamante, Yánez-Muñoz, and Guayasamin, 2016, PLoS One, 11(4: e0151746): 1–40, suggested that populations of northwestern Ecuador are referable to Pristimantis nietoi and Pristimantis luteolateralis, and those in southwestern Ecuador to Pristimantis buenaventura. Pinto-Erazo, Calderón-Espinosa, Medina-Rangel, and Méndez-Galeano, 2020, Biota Colomb., 21: 44–57, provided a record from Francisco Pizarro Municipality, Nariño, Colombia. See Freile, Coloma, Terán-Valdez, Acosta-López, Tapia, and Pazmiño-Otamendi, 2020, Anfibios de Junín: 52–53, for brief account for Junín, Ecuador (identification, habitat, range and photograph). Cruz-García, Zapata-Salvatierra, Sánchez-Nivicela, Chauca, Matecki, and Perez-Correa, 2024, Ecol. Evol., 14(e11401): 8–9, discussed the range, provided a dot map, and provided records from Cañar Province, Ecuador. Included in the Pristimantis chalceus clade of the Pristimantis unistrigatus group as delimited by Mônico, Koch, Ferrão, Fernandes, Marques, Chaparro, Rodrigues, Lima, and Fouquet, 2024, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 108203: 1–19, on molecular grounds (mtDNA and nuDNA genes).
